Tree Stands
Well, I am still bored, so I think I am going to build a tree stand. I found this product on the net and decided that it is far superior to drilling holes into a tree for steps.
If I make it with each step 8" wide it should be pretty usable.
Each section will be 3' long so it is packable too.
It needs a tree stand to go up to, but that is pretty simple.
What do you all think?

Oh, I forgot to post. It is called a Flex E Ladder and retails for $130. That is ridiculous I can built it for $20.
It one thing to get up a tree now the question is where do you sit, stand or what ever. The problem is simple once you answer the last question.
The width of my two hunting boots at their widest(toe ball) is just under 9.5". I'd feel safer if I could get both feet on one rung. It's a pretty far reach to step up three feet and then put you next leg up another three feet without putting both feet down, especially wearing 40 lbs of clothes in the dark with frost/ice/dew on everything. (Just trying to put myself there).
Pretty cool, but a couple of questions: How does it hold on to the tree? Where you gonna find an aspen that big in SD? LOL just kidding, I'm sure we can find a big 'ol cotton wood or elm to put it in. Outstanding project! Best of luck!
I was thinking that each section would have 3 steps in it. 12" centers is theatre standard for ladders.
I figured that the top of each section would need a strap that would hug the tree.
Pat, you should give it a flat dark gray base and then take some ultra flat brown, green, or tan and camouflage it up a bit. I just used various leaves and branches held over my chair and sprayed over them in a reverse stencil pattern. Or you could just spray random lines and curves. Sounds like a good project for an undergrad who needs to learn paint skills...
