Dad says there are a group of goose hunters staying at the farm this week. Sounds like they're having a good time.
We had some snow flurries here this morning... BRRRRR snow in TX in the end of March is crazy...
Dad took the rifle back with him to see if he can try out the predator call and shoot some coyotes.
Hello!!!!! Is anyone there????

Hello everyone, how is winter treating you? Some friends sent us some pictures of the Jamestown Area, where they showed a train with a rotary snowplow clearing a snowdrift. All that could be seen was the black smoke from the train and plow engines, and the plume of snow coming up out of the tunnel they were cutting.
Goose hunters had a great time, shot a lot of birds. We have had some late snows and some heavy rain, so the sloughs will be starting out all full this year.
I have a job interview in KIngsbury County tommorrow. It is for the County Weed Supervisor position. Only 1/2 time(mostly in the summer), and it doesn't pay much, but it would be a job.
I hope the recession turns around soon, and jobs open up again. My volunteer job as daycare bus driver doesn't pay enough.
Talk to us, the old farmer
Winter seems pretty much over here. We're supposed to get a little more ice and snow over the next couple of days, but it's supposed to warm up again by Thursday.
I too am starting the job hunt in the desert. Writing two articles at present, and my advisers say they'll keep me funded well into summer at least.
The ducks and geese are back around here. We drove to Chicago last week and I saw dozens of turkeys throughout Wisconsin. I wish I could justify a little spring turkey chase here, but I need to get ahead on the wordsmithing. Take care and good luck...
Hey Topher
If you are still working at the school, and have not moved yet, are you still considered a student from SD for all purposes? Do you think SD GFP will consider me a resident if I live in and work for Kingsbury Co for 6 months?
Have anything exciting planned for the summer?
I just got out of the De Smet area last night, as the first of the expected 8-12+ inches of snow started to fall, and the wind was only 30mph yet, so it was offically a nice day.
The old farmer.
It is good to see posts on the blog. I'm still here and doing well. I get pepper-sprayed on Thursday and hopefully will post some pictures.
Old farmer good luck on the job if you get the job will you be a Hunting South Dakotan again?
Well one more snow storm here and one more coming. I would imagine that DeSmet is truly buried, Watertown got a foot of snow.
Well this is not a hunting note but a sail thing does anyone want to spend sometime on Lake Superior this summer? If so lets see what we can do.
On an other note I just might look into something that would be a good predator round is 270 in a 30g a good idea or is that over kill.
Well back to work snow day over and I need to get somethings finished up before class on Thursday
I'm still at the U of M for a couple of months at least, although I had to officially change residences last fall.
Gary, I don't see why you can't be a SD resident.
1) You have a SD drivers license.
2) You own a large hunk of property in SD that has an occupied dwelling on it.
3) You run a farm in the state.
4) If you start working more than half of the year in SD, I don't see how they could deny you.
I'm no lawyer, but it seems to me you're qualified :)
--- hope the spray treats you well Phil. Don't eat a colorful breakfast.
--- never heard of a 30gr .270 rd. They make a 90gr. HP that is supposed to do a pretty good job. I think I want to pick up a revolver that shoots .22LR for pesky rabbits and the like.
Chris your right 90g finger problem.
Wow! Gary the job would make it very hard for them to say no. But, then I don't understand why they are doing that now.
Snow came and went and now we are back in a storm watch for the week end.
Topher do you want to learn how to dive over the Easter break? I have a class in Vermilion on Good Friday and Holy Saturday and I could work you and/or Becky in if you want.
Well back to the Greek lesson which I have been NOT doing.
Nelson
I just saw the weather forecast for this weekend, up to 18 inches of snow, with possible 50 mph winds for Sunday, in the Norfolk, Sioux City, Sioux Falls area. You southern boys, eat your hearts out. Real men live in the Dakotas. The Old Farmer
Hey! Deerkiller, will the state of Florida give you any idea of where they will be assigning you when you complete training? Will you have to relocate?
I've been there and done that on the pepper spray training, Once in a lifetime is enough for that! Did you have to take a shot in the face, and then persue and complete a takedown of a perp. or just stand there and take it? Either way it sucks.
Should know next week about the Kingsbury Co job. I am kind of excited about parts of the job. but not really enthused about being away from my warm, loving wife for a month or so at a time.
Later, the old farmer.
